What Constitutes a Good Day for You?

When I was a kid—

Dad used to take us on rides in the car on Sunday afternoons or after Sunday supper in the evening.

If the hunting season was coming up, he would drive by all his favorite duck ponds to see how the ducks were doing. But most often, he would take us to see what he had been working on. Dad did many things to keep us all in food, clothing and housing. But most of the jobs he did were brick masonry and stone masonry. He could claim to be quite literally one of the men who built Canada, or more specifically, Edmonton, Alberta. So often, our Sunday evening drives would go by the job sites he was working on so he could enjoy the visual effects of his labor. When a job was ending and the work was done, Dad had a yard stick by which to measure the effects of his labor: it made him happy if we admired what he had done. For him that made a “good day.”

Being part of the AT Catalyst project gave me a “Good Day” yesterday, and I was surprised by how strong my reaction was. I want to share a note written to IDEAS by Luke McAuley, a therapist in Kenya. When asked about the value of the AT Catalyst Project, Luke said this:

Seeing what ATCatalyst is already doing makes it a Good Day!The work that AT Catalyst has been doing, and is planning on doing, will make such a HUGE difference for me and BethanyKids! The connections and fund raising that AT Catalyst have already brought for us have enabled the shipping of over 500 wheelchairs, which means as soon as they arrive, we will provide a whole new life for 500 individuals and families! Along with the physical change, the focus on spiritual care allows us to directly impact the spiritual well-being of all of these families!

That short comment made me grin from ear to ear. This new track that the Lord has put Karen and me on is working and doing what it’s supposed to do: benefiting people with disabilities in low-resourced countries. I could stand back, not unlike my father years ago, and appreciate what the Lord is doing and thank Him for the part we are getting to play in it.

If you are already a financial partner in this endeavor, I hope you find as much deep-down joy in helping people as I did yesterday. If you are not yet on board with us, please consider becoming part of the AT Catalyst team, helping us by providing monthly financial gifts so this work can go on.

Thank you very much for your support.

Karen and I would love to answer any questions that you may have about the AT Catalyst Project. Please feel free to contact us. If you are interested in donating finances to this project, the web addresses below will help you do that.

Please pray for us. Karen left for Kenya yesterday and will be there for a month. I’m in Texas, trying to get our home packed up and ready to relocate our base of operations to Canada. We have rather large changes coming, and I need the energy to get my part done. Karen also needs the energy to work with her students, the people at Joy Town, and the hospitals in Kenya.
